UFC 128 Predictions – Can Jon Jones Defeat Mauricio Rua for the Title

3/20/2011 5:56:52 PM by cstarssportspick

You’d think that Rua’s resume, coupled with the fact that the strap is around his waist, would make him the favorite in UFC 128 predictions. However, Rua is listed as the +160 underdog as he defends his title against Jones, who is a heavy favorite at -200. To me, those are unconscionable odds given the fact that Rua is a 29 year old veteran with 23 fights behind him.

The rise of Bones Jones has been nothing short of meteoric, and that’s almost an understatement. He’s only thirteen fights deep in his career, and already has a solid record of 12-1 SU with his only loss coming against Matt Hamill in a fight that he was disqualified in for using the dreaded 12-6 elbow strike.Considering how beaten down Hamill was in that fight, Jones should be considered an undefeated fighter. UFC 128 Predictions

My main issue with banking a UFC 128 prediction on Jones is that he hasn’t faced a fighter like Shogun ever, and you have to keep in mind that even Dana White was hesitant to thrust him in to Rashard Evans’ rightful spot as the number one contender. Jones has victories over Stephan Bonnar, Brandon Vera and Ryan Bader but none of those really tell us if the creative striker is ready for the likes of the champ.

Truthfully, if you want to talk about incredible rises to prominence, you can’t ignore what Mauricio Rua has accomplished in his short tenure in the UFC. Some were disappointed by his debut against Forrest Griffin, when her lost by a rear-naked choke in the dying seconds of the fight, but Rua has more than made up for that. UFC Predictions

Jon Jones (12-1) vs. Mauricio Rua (19-4)
Saturday, March 19th --- 10:00pm EST
UFC 128 Fight Lines: Jones -200 / Rua +160

Toppling Mark Coleman, Chuck Liddell and Lyoto Machida certainly deserves much praise. But the real kicker is that Rua has won Knockout of the Night twice and Fight of the Night once already in his 3-2 SU record in the UFC.

The consensus around the water cooler is that Bones Jones will undoubtedly be a world champion in the future. What pundits like myself wonder is if he’s ready for that shot now. What I do know is that his record setting, 84-inch reach and his knack for innovative strikes make him a deserving title contender. The kid is talented, but is he mature enough?

The strange part about the hype around Jones-Rua is that doubting Jones’s resolve is the wrong question to ask in UFC 128 predictions. We all know that Rua is a deadly man when you allow him to get close. The question is not whether Jones is ready to be a champion now. Rather it’s whether or not Rua can solve Jones’s ridiculous reach and speed.

What may cripple Jones here is that he has not faced a veteran like Rua before, and if he has any glaring vulnerability, Rua can find it. That’s the kind of stuff that comes with experience. So far, we haven’t seen Jones show any semblance of a weakness aside from not knowing some of the rules of the octagon.

It’s hard for me to get past that 84-inch reach. By comparison, Rua’s reach is 76-inches and testing Jones on the ground would be a big mistake. Rua seems bigger, but Jones is taller and the exact same weight as the champion. On top of that, Jones is certainly a better grappler on the ground.

Atlantic 10 Title Tournament Betting - Owls, Musketeers, But Not Much Else

3/20/2011 5:35:02 PM by cstarssportspick
Atlantic 10 Title Tournament Betting - Owls, Musketeers, But Not Much Else - Boardwalk Hall will once again be the destination for the college basketball betting Atlantic 10 conference title tournament, as teams from one of the best mid-major conferences fight for their chance to be a part of this year’s NCAA national title tournament. The Atlantic 10 has made its case for the next best conference behind the Mountain West, and now every team except for the top two seeds Xavier and Temple will fight to earn their chance at the big dance.

The Favorites

Xavier  + 130 College Basketball Odds

The No. 18 Xavier Musketeers and No. 24 Temple Owls were the only teams from the A-10 to finish the year in the top-25, and it is easy to recognize why. Not only did these teams dominate their sports betting conference play, but they also put up solid numbers in games against the rest of the country. The Musketeers clinched the Atlantic-10 title outright for the first time since 2009, but it was the third time in four years that they accomplished that goal. To say that Xavier is done there would be a major mistake, as this team has the power to run through the rest of the conference untouched.

Temple + 160

The Owls may have something to say about that however after winning the A-10 tournament in each of the past three seasons. Temple enters this tournament having won nine straight conference postseason games, and their ability to deliver in the clutch is unmatched even by the Musketeers. In fact, the Owls have won 11 of 12 since falling to Xavier in the lone regular season meeting between these teams, and it will be difficult for lightning to strike twice. The only loss over that span was in a visit to the defending NCAA champion Duke Blue Devils

Next In Line

Richmond Spiders + 220

Although this conference seems to be on the sports betting bonus up rise, they are still a long way from being considered one of the deeper groups in the nation. There is a true lack of depth towards the lower half of the conference, which has led to such a big disparity in records between the top and bottom of the conference. The one team that could surprise however is the Richmond Spiders, a program known for being able to play their best ball when it counts the most. The Spiders won 13 of 16 A-10 games this season, and did make it all the way to the conference championship game just a year ago. That loss to Temple taught the core group there a lot about what it takes to win it all, and if any other team is going to have a chance beside either Xavier or the Owls, it would have to be Richmond.

Atlantic 10 Conference Title Tournament: Outlook & Pick

College Basketball Picks Regardless of that they lost at Xavier during the regular season, the Owls are a battle-tested team that is very hungry to prove they can do it a fourth straight time. It is hard to beat the same team twice in one season at the top, and a neutral location for a potential championship game will be the pay per head difference as Temple squeezes by Xavier in the final.

Pick: Temple + 160

UFC Odds - Dollaway, Munoz Square Off In Louisville

3/3/2011 4:17:40 PM by cstarssportspick

March Madness betting players are very familiar with the city of Louisville, home of the Cardinals, but on Saturday night it will be home to the first UFC event in the city, along with the first 3D broadcast in the history of the UFC. UFC Live: Sanchez vs. Kampmann will go off at the KFC Yum! Center, and there will be an interesting matchup in the middleweight division as C.B. Dollaway takes on Mark Munoz.

UFC Betting – Thursday, 10:00 PM ET

Dollaway (11-2, five KOs) was a finalist on the seventh season of “The Ultimate Fighter”, and even though he lost to Amir Sadollah, he was still offered a contract to fight professionally in the UFC. :the Doberman”  was an All-American wrestler at Arizona State, but he is now working his way up the ranks in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, which would be a great addition to his fantastic wrestling skills. Dollaway has won three matches in a row, including a guillotine that put him over on Joe Doerksen at UFC 119 that proved to be the “Submission of the Night”, the second time in his UFC career that he has been awarded that honor.

Munoz (9-2, four KOs) is also on a roll with four wins in his last five matches, and the lone loss came in a tough split decision against Yushin Okami in August 2010. Like Dollaway, “The Filipino Wrecking Machine” is a former All-American wrestler from his time at Oklahoma State, and he is one level ahead of his opponent when it comes to Brazilian jiu-jitsu as he is a purple belt (Dollaway is a blue belt). But a major worry for anyone who faces Munoz is his ground and pound, as he is relentless when he has you on the mat, whereas Dollaway’s aim is to clinch on a submission.

Let's look at the UFC Predictions for tonight's fight. We’re willing to bet 5dimes that this match will end up on the mat at some point, given the wrestling skills of these two warriors. Munoz has been made the sports betting UFC Odds favorite at -200, while Dollaway comes in at +160. This will be a war of attrition as both will look to impose their will on the other, and takedown defense is going to be an important factor for the winner of this match as both will be looking to take this to the ground. We’re giving the slight edge to Munoz because of his power, which will give him an edge in the stand-up part of the contest. Dollaway is a tough customer, but Munoz’s sheer power will be enough to give him a much-needed win in a crowded middleweight division. UFC Picks Stick with the favorite, Mark Munoz, at your best online sportsbook.

2011 March Madness Odds - March Madness Betting Lines

2/26/2011 4:07:01 PM by cstarssportspick

2011 March Madness Odds - March Madness Betting Lines - NCAAB Betting – The Anticipation Continues To Grow For This Year’s March Madness Tournament

The chase to the NCAA 2011 March Madness Odds betting tournament is on, and if you ask Vegas there is one team that stands above the rest as the favorites for this year’s tournament. The reigning national champion Duke Blue Devils are projected to successfully defend their title and repeat with another sweep of both the ACC and the national championship, a road that begins in less than a month in Houston, Texas. Here is a quick look at some of the favorites to win this year’s tournament.

The Favorites

Duke Blue Devils 4-1 March Madness Odds

The Blue Devils have looked absolutely dominant at times this season, with the type of up-tempo offense that made them so successful a year ago. Duke will likely have the ACC clinched by the end of this week, and the question now is whether or not they really do want that No. 1 seed. History hasn’t been kind to the team’s that have finished in the top spot in the country, which makes the Blue Devils an interesting online sports betting selection.

Kansas Jayhawks 4-1 2011 March Madness Lines

The Jayhawks still haven’t caught the Longhorns for the Big 12 title, but that doesn’t matter as much as a national championship would. The mood in Kansas is positive as a long season will wind down with two of their final three games on the road, before the action really begins to pick up. The Morris brothers have proved their merit all season for the Jayhawks, and will once again be relied on once the tournament opens.

The Solid Bets

Texas Longhorns 6-1

The Longhorns looked like a solid bet to sweep the Big 12 with their final five games against unranked opponents, but that just wasn’t the case for Texas this pay per head season. Still, Jordan Hamilton and Tristan Thompson give the Longhorns one of the most dangerous tandems in the country, and if they can coast the rest of the way in conference play they should be rested and ready for a long run in the national title tournament.

Pittsburgh Panthers 12-1 March Madness Betting Lines

The Panthers have let their guard down a bit in a couple of close losses this season, including last week’s defeat at the hands of the St. John’s Red Storm, but this is still a team that can get the job done. Ashton Gibbs is among the most lethal scorers in the country, and this team is built to compliment him perfectly.

The Dark Horse

St. John’s Red Storm 75-1 2011 March Madness Odds

The Red Storm have been an absolute threat this year, and finally were recognized for it when they cracked the top-25 this sports betting bonus week. St. John’s already holds notable wins over the defending champion Duke, Pittsburgh, Connecticut, Notre Dame, and Georgetown, and have the potential to take their game to another level every team they hit the hard court. Whatever team they draw in the first couple of rounds will be sweating as soon as they are tabled.

Illinois vs Michigan State 2010 College Football Picks & Betting Odds

10/16/2010 2:07:51 AM by cstarssportspick
Illinois vs Michigan State 2010 College Football Picks & Betting Odds Week 7 - Illinois beat Penn State but is Penn a good measuring stick? They were without 6 starting players on defense. Have more players that are injured and rusty from missing games. Does not do as well on the road test in this College Football Picks game,  than they do at home and now going into very hostile territory.

College Football Odds Michigan State -7 -110 Betting Odds. Cousins and the Michigan State Spartans on the other hand is the hottest team right now. To shut down Denard Robinson convincingly is huge cause that is all they have been hearing on ESPN. This should be a Blow Out win, in this week 2010 College Football Picks matchup.

Michigan State is now 6-0 coming off back-to-back huge wins over Wisconsin and Michigan. Let's take a look at some College Football Week 7 Trends. Fighting Illini are 1-7 ATS in their last 8 College Football Picks meetings. Ohio State vs Wisconsin 2010 College Football Picks & Predictions

10/16/2010 2:06:47 AM by cstarssportspick
Ohio State vs Wisconsin 2010 College Football Picks & College Football Predictions Week 7 - Both teams could be overrated and just haven't played stout enough competition to really know.  Ohio State looks to be the stronger team here because of the defense, but Wisky will be tough at home for a rare night game as the crowd will be stoked. College Football Odds makers at Sportsbook.com have listed Ohio State as -4 -110 Betting Odds favroites in this Week 7 College Football Picks matchup.

Through a similar rated schedule Ohio State has far better numbers on both sides of the ball and while the Badgers deserved better in last year’s contest between these teams the Buckeyes feature far more big gain threats. Wisconsin is a threatening home underdog but Ohio State has great numbers as road favorites.

Let's take a look at the 2010 College Football Predictions play. My lean is to take points in expectation of a close battle, or upset.  Facing a #1 rated team brings the best out in many opponents, especially when feeding off a crowd's excitement. 2010 College Football Picks Bet on Wisconsin. College Football Odds, Lines and Point Spreads have listed the total at 49 points and Wisconsin +180 on the College Football Moneyline.

Texas vs Nebraska 2010 College Football Predictions, Picks & Odds
Texas vs Nebraska 2010 College Football Predictions, 2010 College Football Picks & Odds - Huskers have not played a good defense yet and this will be a great test for the Husker offense.  The Texas D has talent all over the field, but what has that talent done? It got ran over by UCLA...maybe they overlooked the Bruins? Nebraska is the favroite in this College Football Picks matchup for Week 7.

Texas was favored by two touchdowns when these teams met in the Big XII championship last season and after the controversial finish to that game the Huskers certainly have had their sights on this rematch. This time around the College Football Odds makers have listed Nebraska -10 -110 Betting Odds favorites in this College Football Predictions matchup.

Nebraska has explosive, big play offense and stellar defense.  I think Texas's relatively poor offense will give Nebraska's offense enough possessions/chances to bust out some big plays and will cover fairly easily. 2010 College Football Picks & Predictions Bet on Nebrska to win and cover the 10 points set by the College Football Odds makers.

C.J. Wilson is a pretty good pitcher and C.C. is still very good but not playing at a high level from last year.   Don't think Rangers will allow 3 losses in a row at home in the 2010 playoffs Picks matchups. Cincinnati vs Louisville 2010 College Football Picks & Predictions Week 7

10/16/2010 2:03:39 AM by cstarssportspick
Cincinnati vs Louisville 2010 College Football Picks & 2010 College Football Predictions Week 7 - Cincinnati coming off a big ATS fav win (points, not magnitude) against the MAC. Louisville coming off a big ATS fav win (again, points, not magnitude) against the C-USA.

Cincinnati is 2-3 but the schedule has been challenging. The Bearcats are a difficult team to rush against, allowing just 2.6 yards per carry so the Cardinals might be forced into passing more than desired. Bearcats are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 College Football Picks games in October.

Last season Cincinnati won 41-10 but the gap has closed considerably between these teams although the Bearcats should be able to pull away for a solid College Football Predictions victory on the road.
